What is Peer Support?
Peer Support is connection, encouragement, and guidance from someone with lived experience of substance use and recovery. Peer Support Specialists use their own experiences to help others navigate recovery, connect with resources, set goals, and build a life that supports their individual pathway to recovery. Recovery looks different for everyone, and there is no single right way to recover.
Queen Anne's County Health Department Peer Support
The Queen Anne's County Health Department Peer Support Team provides free, confidential, and non-judgmental support to individuals and families affected by substance use. Our Peer Support Specialists meet people where they are and help connect them with treatment, recovery, Drug User Health resources, community services, and other supports.
Our services may include:
- One-on-one peer support
- Treatment and recovery referrals
- Help navigating treatment and community resources
- Recovery planning and goal setting
- Support before, during, and after treatment
- Overdose prevention education and naloxone distribution
- Outreach and community education
- Reentry and justice-system peer support
- Connections to housing, employment, transportation, and other community resources
- Support for family members and loved ones
