Infectious (Communicable) Disease

The Carroll County Communicable Disease Program provides education and tracks and investigates infectious diseases to help keep Carroll County residents from getting sick.

Some diseases we track include Lyme Disease, Pertussis (whooping cough), respiratory diseases, and gastrointestinal (GI) diseases. We work with our Environmental Health Bureau to prevent and treat foodborne illness and rabies in people.

We also support the community with services and information related to emerging communicable diseases such as:

Tuberculosis – Tuberculosis (TB) is caused by bacteria that often attack the lungs, but can also attack other parts of the body like the kidney, spine, and brain.

Our Communicable Disease Program nurses provide education and treatment for people with active TB disease or TB infection.

For those seeking TB testing for a job or for school, testing is available at local urgent care centers. Visit our our Immunizations, Tests, and Titers Resource page for locations.
