Community Health Coalitions

The Carroll County Health Department meets with many community partners and community members to identify, prioritize, and address local health needs. Together, we work to keep Carroll County residents healthy and safe. Below is a list of groups that meet to discuss community health planning. Behavioral Health and Addictions Coordinating Council (BHAC)

The Behavioral Health and Addictions Coordination Council is an advisory board appointed by the Carroll County Commissioners to develop strategic plans for substance abuse, mental health, and criminal justice issues in Carroll County. The BHAC serves as the local mental health advisory council and the local alcohol and drug abuse council.  Membership in the advisory council consists of representatives from various community organizations.  The CCBHAC holds public meetings in the months of September, December, March and June.  Call 410-876-4449 for more information.​     

Cancer Coalition

Are you passionate about cancer prevention, early detection, and supporting those affected by cancer in our community?

The Carroll County Cancer Coalition is a group of dedicated individuals, healthcare professionals, and organizations working together to improve cancer outcomes across our county. Our goal is to raise awareness, support access to care, promote screenings, and reduce the burden of cancer through education, outreach and collaboration.  

Meetings are held quarterly and are open to all community members, partners and advocates who want to make a difference. Your voice matters!

Child Fatality Review Board

The Child Fatality Review Board is an interagency board that reviews child deaths (ages 0-18 years) occurring in Carroll County. They recommend system changes to improve child health and safety. Call 410-876-4900 for more information.​

Local Health Improvement Coalition (LHIC)

​The Local Health Improvement Coalition (LHIC) addresses local health priorities and builds community well-being. Each jurisdiction in Maryland is represented by an LHIC that helps support local health planning, prioritization, and evaluation to meet local health needs. LHICs are led by Health Department and partner agencies, and include local government, healthcare agencies, businesses, non-profits, faith-based organizations, and community members. Nicotine Prevention Coalition

The Nicotine Coalition is made up of health professionals, students, and community members who work together to end the use of tobacco and nicotine in Carroll County through outreach, education, grant projects, monitoring of tobacco control laws, and other activities. Safe Kids Carroll County

Safe Kids Carroll County is a local chapter of (www.usa.safekids.org), which works to prevent child injuries. Staff from law enforcement, fire departments, health care, schools, local government, and the Health Department participate in the council. Call 410-876-4448 for more information and meeting dates.

School Health Council

The School Health Council meets every other month. Representatives of the Carroll County Health Department and Carroll County Public Schools discuss school health issues and related community resources. This group is open to the public. Call 410-876-4819 for more information and meeting times.
