The Carroll County Health Department is one of 24 local health departments under the Maryland Department of Health. We work closely with Carroll County Government, and the Carroll County Commissioners serve as the Board of Health. The Health Department is funded by federal, state and county funding, as well as grants and fees for services.
The Health Department offers a wide range of services to prevent disease and injury, promote health and well-being, and protect people who live in and visit Carroll County. Our services are divided into four bureaus:
- The Bureau of Prevention, Wellness, and Recovery oversees and connect people to mental health and substance use services and offers prevention initiatives to address substance use, overdose, and suicide.
- The Bureau of Community Health Services provides clinical services and support at our facility and across the county to fill gaps in community services.
- The Environmental Health Bureau focuses on safe food and water, effective well and septic systems, and preventing rabies and tick and mosquito-borne disease.
- The Bureau of Administration provides vital records, medical assistance services, planning and communications, preparedness, and internal support services.
Our team of around 150 employees are constantly working toward our vision, mission, and values:
