Measles is a highly contagious, vaccine-preventable viral infection. Currently, there is no evidence of ongoing transmission of measles in Maryland.  However, there are ongoing measles outbreaks in areas outside of Maryla​​nd and internationally​​. As of December 30, 2025, the CDC reported 2,065 people from 44 states as confirmed measles cases this year, the ​highest number in over 30 years. The largest current outbreaks are in South Carolina and the Arizona-Utah border region. Maryland reported 3 travel-related cases in 2025 and 0 new cases so far in 2026.​

On January 11, 2026, the Maryland Dept of Health issued notification of potential measles exposures associated with a person with confirmed measles who traveled through Maryland while infectious late Jan. 7, 2026 through early Jan. 8, 2026. If you think you or your family member have symptoms of measles​, call your doctor before going to the office so staff can take measures to prevent possible spread to other patients.  Do not go to child care, school, work, or out in public if you have symptoms of measles. If you think you or a family member might have been exposed to measles, or if you have questions about vaccinations, contact your healthcare provider. ​​
