The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) defines Immunization information systems (IIS) as systems to “help providers, families, and public health officials by consolidating immunization information into one reliable source. The information can then be used to guide patient care, improve vaccination rates, and ultimately reduce vaccine-preventable disease.” ImmuNet is Maryland’s IIS, a confidential and secure database that is HIPAA compliant. It stores an individual’s vaccination records, and is a web-based tool for healthcare providers and schools to keep their patients/students vaccinated on time and avoid under or over vaccinated.
CDC IIS Functional Standards describe the operations, data quality and technology needed by IISs, and can be validated by one of CDC partners, the American Immunization Registry Association (AIRA). ImmuNet participates in this validation process. To learn more, click the image to the left.
