Healthy Families Allegany County

Healthy Families Allegany County is a free and voluntary home visiting program helping pregnant women and parents of newborns get their children off to a healthy and safe start. 

How can Healthy Families assist me?

  • Introduce positive parenting skills.
  • Assist in accessing local resources (i.e. counseling, housing, smoking cessation, etc.).
  • Empower families to feel confident in themselves.
  • Inform families about child health and development.
  • Track developmental milestones.
  • Encourage play time that enhances child development.


Who is Eligible? 

Residents of Allegany County who are pregnant or delivered a baby within the last two weeks.

Thrive by Three

Parents are their children's first and most influential teachers.  the early years of a child's life are critical for development and provide the foundation for success.  All children and their families deserve the same opportunities to succeed.  Thrive by Three supports parents in giving their children a healthy head start in life.  

Thrive by Three is a FREE family-focused home visiting program.  A member of our staff will schedule regular visits to your home to provide information on child health, early childhood development, and parenting tips.  Your home visitor can also connect you to community resources for your growing family.  These personalized visits usually occur monthly but are flexible to meet your unique needs. 

Thrive by Three can help your family...

  • Have a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby, if you are expecting.  
  • Receive items that will help you provide for your child's needs.
  • Give your child a healthy start, and encourage growth and development.
  • Set and reach goals.
  • Develop positive parenting and effective problem-solving skills.
  • Identify and build on your family's existing strengths and support systems.
  • Find medical care for your children.
  • Identify developmental delays that may need special attention.
  • Connect with mental health support, addictions treatment, or other services if needed.

Who is Eligible? 

Allegany County residents that are expecting a baby or parenting any child up to age three.

Infant and Toddler Program

The Infant and Toddler program is a group effort of the Board of Education of Allegany County, the Allegany County Department of Social Services and the Allegany County Health Department, in cooperation with local medical providers.

The three agencies and providers work together to meet the educational, emotional, social, and physical needs of children that may have a developmental delay.

If you believe your child is having difficulty with development such as speech, learning and solving problems, interacting with others, using small and large muscles for walking or picking up objects, or has feeding concerns, there is help.
