What is the Board of Health?
The Allegany County Board of Health is composed of the Allegany County Commissioners and Health Officer. The purpose of having a Board of Health in place in each county is to provide a more efficient means of promoting public health throughout Maryland. The legal basis for the establishment of county Boards of Health can be found in the Annotated Code of Maryland under
Health-General § 3-201.
The Allegany County Board of Health meets twice a year and may meet at other times if necessary. Meetings are held at the Allegany County Health Department.
