Pharmacy Jurisprudence Exam: The Maryland Specific Module Update

Starting on June 1, 2026, the Maryland Board of Pharmacy began allowing pharmacist licensure applicants to choose whether to take either the Uniform Multistate Pharmacy Jurisprudence Examination (UMPJE) or the state MPJE as part of licensure requirements.

If the UMPJE is selected, pharmacist licensure applicants will also be required to take a Maryland-specific module similar in design to a CE program consisting of recorded materials and a competency assessment.

Students that have successfully passed the UMPJE exam may register to take the Maryland module competency assessment using this link Eventbrite registration page. The assessment includes a 2-hour webinar and a no-fail tes.

Students should prepare using the official NABP UMPJE Content Outline. The four
major content areas are Pharmacy and Pharmacist Practice, Medication Use Process, Regulatory Authority and Legal Obligations, and Pharmacy Operations. The first two domains each account for approximately 30% of scored questions, while the latter two each account for approximately 20%.

The transition should be viewed as an opportunity. The UMPJE may support greater
licensure portability and reduce the need for multiple state-specific law examinations for graduates seeking practice opportunities in participating jurisdictions. At the same time, Maryland-specific requirements remain important, and students should not assume that the UMPJE alone completes Maryland’s jurisprudence expectations.

Students may contact the board with additional questions or concerns.
