Attached is a letter from the Secretary of Health and Mental Hygiene encouraging licensees with prescriptive authority to write prescriptions for the opioid overdose antidote naloxone to all patients who are at risk of an opioid overdose. As of October 1, 2014, Naloxone is available in the Medicaid program without preauthorization for all Medicaid patients state-wide. Included in the letter is information on prescribing naloxone and patient education materials on overdose and naloxone. Thank you for your assistance in combating the opioid overdose epidemic in Maryland.
