Nursing Assistant Certification

Certification Status & Renewal Update - April 1, 2026

  • The Maryland Board of Nursing’s (MBON) online payment system is currently unable to process electronic transactions. As a result, individuals whose CNA-I or CNA-II certificates expire in March, April, or May 2026 are strongly encouraged to complete the renewal process using the steps below:
    1. Complete the fillable renewal application form. To minimize errors, avoid submitting handwritten applications.
    2. Print the completed application.
    3. Enclose a check or money order, along with any required supporting documentation.
    4. Mail the completed application, payment, and all supporting documents to:
Maryland Board of Nursing
Certification Division
4140 Patterson Avenue
Baltimore, Maryland 21215-2254

The CNA-I and CNA-II renewal application will also be available on the MBON website beginning April 1, 2026. Please note that, until the new licensing system becomes operational, all renewal applications should be submitted by mail whenever possible.

New Forms & Instructions Effective April 1, 2026

  • NEW! Change to Current 90-Day Letter Submission Process for Initial Nursing Assistant Applicants
  • Verify a Nursing Assistant's Certification - A nursing assistant can be verified using name, certification number or partial social security number (addresses, and social security numbers do not appear for security reasons). The information can be printed for facility files.
  • Primary source verification of certification status is found in the "Look Up A License" feature of this website. This secure program is updated daily. Paper licenses are not secure and are only accurate at the time they are printed. Paper licenses and certificates are easy to forge and are used by impostors for fraud and identity theft; these are serious issues that threaten our mission of public protection. In the rare event an employer will not accept the Look Up A License verification, you may request a paper verification form.
