Certified Dialysis Technicians (CDT) Breaking News

The Maryland Board of Nursing, in accordance with House Bill 218 of the 2022 General Assembly session, has amended its regulations to create a separate certification for Certified Dialysis Technicians (CDTs). These amendments will impact current CNA-DTs and will establish a new CDT initial and renewal application process, among other changes.

Please be aware that the Notice of Final Action for COMAR 10.39.06 Certified Dialysis Technicians was published in the Division of State Document’s Maryland Register on July 25, 2025, and had an effective date of August 4, 2025.

*Initial and Endorsement CDT certificates*
Until further notice, due to pending federal approval for updating the livescan fingerprint form for background checks, there will be a delay with issuing initial and endorsement CDT certificates.

*Current CNA-DTs*
Current CNA-DTs will receive a new CDT certificate number. Please search for your new certificate number using Look Up a License
Please note: Upon certificate renewal, CDTs will have to submit evidence of completing THREE hours of continuing education approved by the Board, versus previously submitting evidence of completing one three-hour continuing education course.

Our goal is to ensure a smooth transition and to prevent any interruptions in practice. For more information and guidance, please visit the Board’s CDT page.
