During the 2025 legislative session, the Maryland General Assembly enacted new training requirements for healthcare professionals under
§1–225 of the Health Occupations Article and
§20–1306 of the Health-General Article.
Effective April 1, 2026, all applicants renewing a health occupation license or certificate must complete approved training in implicit bias and structural racism. These courses are required only once and should be completed at your first renewal after April 1, 2026.
Please note:
- Structural Racism Training: In accordance with §1–225, all applicants must attest to completing a structural racism training program at their first renewal after April 1, 2026.
- Implicit Bias Training: Applicants who have already completed implicit bias training for a prior renewal are not required to repeat it. Those who have not yet completed this training must do so and attest to completion at their next renewal.
A list of approved training programs is available on the
Office of Minority Health and Health Disparities (MHHD) website.
Please direct all licensing and certification questions to the appropriate Board of Nursing email located on our
