Women's Health

Our Goal

The Maryland Department of Health (MDH) envisions that all women in Maryland can achieve and maintain their highest level of physical, mental, and emotional well-being, and have the agency to make choices regarding their body and about their reproductive and sexual health.

Women’s Health Action Plan

The MDH Women’s Health Action Plan lays out specific actions that MDH will take to improve women’s health in Maryland. While the Plan is for all Maryland women, MDH will center those who experience a greater share of the inequities – non-Hispanic Black women and those who live in rural areas in Maryland. The actions prioritize and advance health equity in policies and practice, and builds upon existing MDH work

Current Initiatives

The Women’s Health Program aims to address the diverse health needs of girls and women across their lifespan. Current initiatives impact critical and sensitive periods in the life course to promote good health. Targeting women across the life course helps women lead healthier lives overall, and for those who desire to have children in the future, it also prevents adverse pregnancy outcomes for both the mother and baby.
