What is Children's Medical Services (CMS)?

The Children’s Medical Services Program, also called the CMS Program, is a program of the Maryland Department of Health.

CMS can help Marylanders who:

  • Are low-income
  • Are uninsured or underinsured
  • Are ages 0-21 years
  • Get specialty care for a chronic illness or disability

CMS helps these Marylanders by paying for some needed services. CMS can pay for many kinds of services, such as visits to a specialist, hospitalizations, surgeries, medications, therapies, lab work, x-rays, and medical equipment/supplies. CMS does not cover routine check-ups or immunizations, sick visits, emergency services, routine dental care, mental health services, transportation, and other services.

How do I contact CMS?

How can I be covered by CMS?

In order to be covered by the CMS Program, all services must be pre-authorized. CMS requires a minimum of 10 business days to process the pre-authorization, before the service is given.

Electronic Forms / Emails

CMS is now incorporating Cognito Forms for electronic submission of claims and Care Management Plans.
