The Maryland Community Health Resources Commission (CHRC) is a quasi-independent commission operating within the Maryland Department of Health & Mental Hygiene (DHMH), whose members are appointed by the Governor. The CHRC was created by the Maryland General Assembly in 2005 to expand access to health care in underserved communities in the state and address service delivery gaps in our dynamic health care marketplace.
Over the last six years, the CHRC has issued eight Call for Proposals and awarded 110 grants, totaling $26.1 million. These grants have expanded access in all 24 jurisdictions of the state and collectively provided health care services to more than 100,000 low-income Marylanders. In addition to these grants, the CHRC is working closely with DHMH and others to implement the following projects:
- The Maryland Health Improvement and Disparities Reduction Act of 2012, legislation developed under the leadership of Lt. Governor Anthony G. Brown and DHMH Secretary Joshua M. Sharfstein, M.D. to address health disparities in the community.
- State Health Improvement Process: Supporting Local Health Improvement Coalitions (LHICs) to Implement Local Health Action Plans.
- The DHMH Developmental Disabilities Administration (DDA) Licensee Infrastructure Grants.
- The CHRC Business Plan: Technical Assistance and Ongoing Support for Maryland's Safety Net Providers.
