​To obtain initial GNA certification: 

 A. Complete an approved GNA course;A. Complete an approved GNA course;A. Complete an approved GNA course;A. Complete an approved GNA course;

 B. Obtain CNA certification from the Maryland Board of Nursing;

 C. Apply to MDGNATS for the Geriatric Nursing Assistant Examination;

 D. Results of the examination will be forwarded to the Board and MDGNATS will notify the candidate of the results;

 E. For those passing the examination, the Board will indicate on the database that the individual is certified as a GNA, which will appear on online and telephone verification.

 F. Renewal

1. GNA shall obtain verification from employer of the required 8 hours of work as a GNA in a comprehensive care facility in the two years immediately preceding renewal of the certification on the form and in the manner required by the Board.
