CJIS Criminal Background Check Requirement

Dear Constituent,

This notice is to inform you that pursuant to House Bill 1420/Chapter 370​ and Senate Bill 806/Chapter 371 of the 2026 Maryland legislative session, effective June 1, 2026, individuals applying for initial certification as a Registered Nurse — Forensic Nurse Examiner (RN-FNE), Registered Nurse — Workers' Compensation Medical Case Manager (RN-WCCM), or Certified Medication Technician (MT) will be required to complete a CJIS Criminal Background Check. 

In the future, individuals applying for renewal of certification as a RN-FNE, RN-WCCM, or MT will be required to complete a CJIS Criminal Background Check. The Board will promulgate regulations to establish the schedule for criminal background checks for renewal applicants.
