Licensed Clinical Alcohol & Drug Counselor
Education
60 semester credits (90 quarter credits) Master’s degree or higher in a Human Services counseling field from a regionally accredited college or university.
39 semester credits (65 quarter credits of alcohol and drug coursework.
Required courses:
3 sem cr (5 qtr cr) must be in the areas below:
- Medical aspects of chemical dependency (Pharmacology)
- Addictions Treatment Delivery
- Ethics that includes alcohol and drug counseling issues.
- Group counseling
- Individual counseling
- Abnormal Psychology
- Theories of Counseling
- Treatment of co-occurring disorders
- Family counseling
- Human Development
- Topics in substance related and addictive disorder
AND
l. Six (6) semester credits (10 quarter credit) in alcohol and drug internship/practicum or field placement.
AND
3 semester credit 5 quarter credit Graduate Level courses in the following:
- Personality Development
- Diagnosis and Treatment of Mental and Emotional Disorder
- Psychopathology
- Psychotherapy
Supervision
2 years and 2000 hours of supervised experience AFTER earning a Masters degree or higher. Clinical Hours must include:
- 1500 face to face client contact hours,
- 100 of face to face clinical supervision of which (i) 50 hours individual face to face and (ii) 50 hours group face to face clinical supervision.
