​Licensed Clinical Alcohol & Drug Counselor 


Education

60 semester credits (90 quarter credits) Master’s degree or higher in a Human Services counseling field from a regionally accredited college or university.

39 semester credits (65 quarter credits of alcohol and drug coursework.

Required courses:
3 sem cr (5 qtr cr)  must be in the areas below:

  • Medical aspects of chemical dependency (Pharmacology)
  • Addictions Treatment Delivery
  • Ethics that includes alcohol and drug counseling issues.
  • Group counseling
  • Individual counseling 
  • Abnormal Psychology
  • Theories of Counseling 
  • Treatment of co-occurring disorders
  • Family counseling
  • Human Development 
  • Topics in substance related and addictive disorder​
AND
l. Six (6) semester credits (10 quarter credit) in alcohol and drug internship/practicum or field ​placement.
AND
3 semester credit 5 quarter credit Graduate Level courses in the following:
  • Personality Development
  • Diagnosis and Treatment of Mental and Emotional Disorder
  • Psychopathology 
  • Psychotherapy​

Supervision

2  years and  2000 hours of supervised experience AFTER  earning a Masters degree or higher. Clinical Hours must include:
  • 1500 face to face client contact hours,
  • 100 of face to face clinical supervision of which (i) 50 hours individual face to face and (ii) 50 hours group face to face clinical supervision.
