Hospitals within Correctional Facilities

Description

A hospital within a correctional facility is a specified area within a state-operated correctional institution, in which general and clinical inpatient health care services are provided to inmates in the custody of the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services.  OHCQ is responsible for the licensure and oversight of hospitals within correctional facilities, including initial licensure surveys and annual surveys.

Health care services provided to inmates while in the population are not regulated under this licensure category.  OHCQ does not oversee other health care services within correctional facilities that do not house patients overnight.  To file a complaint regarding other correctional health care services, contact the Office of Inmate Clinical Services at the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services.

Maryland Regulations

Regulations related to hospitals within correctional facilities are found in COMAR 10.07.12.  To order copies of COMAR regulations, contact Tarshia Neal at the Maryland Division of State Documents at 410-260-3874 or [email protected].  Regulations are also available at public libraries - Find your nearest public library.
