Under a cooperative agreement, West Cecil has agreed to take over operations of the Dental School's clinic, which will maintain its status as a clinical teaching site with five pre-doctoral students and four hygiene students. Based on West Cecil’s status as a Federally Qualified Health Center, the program is designed to be sustainable after CHRC grant funds are expended. CHRC grant funds are being utilized to support staff salaries and supplies for the clinic.

 The applicant currently operates two other dental clinics in the region, and the new (third) proposed clinic is focusing exclusively on serving low-income and un/underinsured residents in Prince George's County. Grant Project Description: This two-year grant is being utilized to expand the applicant’s existing dental program by the addition of a community health worker to target Medicaid adults who generate ED dental visits at Western Maryland Health System.  The proposal estimates that $24,000 in treatment funds each year will provide dental care services valued at more than $100,000 for up to 100 Medicaid adults for one year. Grant funds are utilized after Medicaid billing/reimbursement is sought, and are being utilized to support salary and dental treatment costs not covered by Medicaid.

Grant Project Description: This two-year grant enables Health Partners to begin billing for dental services and to allow the grantee to achieve long-term financial sustainability for its dental program. The grant builds on a past CHRC award to assist the clinic in transitioning from a grant-based revenue model to billing third-party payers for primary care services provided. Health Partners currently has two part-time dental hygienists and a volunteer dentist who is being credentialed as a Medicaid provider. The applicant proposes to transition their credentialed dentist (now volunteer) to a full-time dentist that can generate a fee-for-service revenue stream. Grant Project Description: The two-year grant supported a partnership between CCHS and the Chester River Hospital Center to provide pediatric dental surgery services in Kent County, a Medically and Dentally Underserved Area (MUA). Grant funds were utilized to purchase equipment for the operating room and provided the “bridge” funding for the reimbursement differences between anesthesia costs and Medical Assistance reimbursement. Grant Project Description: The two-year grant supported a program providing services in an the Montgomery County Dental Pilot program. This included preventative, diagnostic, and emergency services, such as regular cleanings, x-rays, and extractions. Grant funds were utilized to enable Spanish Catholic Center to increase the number of days the program served patients from two to four, with one day exclusively dedicated to serving pediatric patients. This program served more than 4,130 individuals and leveraged an additional $90,000 in program funding.

Grant funds were utilized to support the costs of opening a new dental clinic in Glen Burnie that provided basic dental care at reduced rates to individuals enrolled in the REACH program. This clinic allowed for Anne Arundel to provide dental services to an additional 1,300 individuals over the duration of the grant.
