The Maryland Commission on Health Equity (The Shirley Nathan–Pulliam Health Equity Act of 2021) was created during the 2021 legislative session and became active on October 1, 2021. The purpose of the Commission is to determine ways for state and local governments to work collaboratively and to implement policies and laws to reduce health disparities and to increase health equity across the state. Using a health equity framework, the Commission will advise on issues of racial, ethnic, cultural and socioeconomic health disparities; develop a comprehensive health equity plan to address the social determinants of health; and set goals for achieving health equity in alignment with other statewide planning activities.
