Maryland Medicaid’s Services for Children, Youth and Families

1915(i): Home and Community-based Behavioral Health Services for Children, Youth and Families

This program provides services for young people with intensive behavioral health needs whose symptoms may place them at risk for higher levels of care, such as inpatient hospitalization or residential treatment.

Get support at home and in your community

Maryland Medicaid’s 1915(i) services connect your family with resources:
  • Mental health care and family support groups
  • Intervention based, in-home services
  • Art and music therapy, gardening and horse-assisted therapy
  • Respite care (temporary relief options for caregivers)
  • Other personalized services
Eligible families will have:

  • Youth (0-5) directly referred from inpatient or day hospital, primary care, outpatient psychiatric facility or other early childhood programs
  • Youth (6-21) must have either
    • 2+ hospital stays, visits to the emergency room, mobile crisis team responses, or visits to a crisis center in the last 12 months; or
    • A Residential Treatment stay within the past 90 days.
  • Medicaid (or are eligible to enroll in Medicaid)
About 1915(i)

1915(i) is a Medicaid program that provides home and community-based behavioral health services to support youth and families. Families access these services through Care Coordination Organizations (CCOs), which guide them through 1915(i) enrollment and connect them to needed supports.
