MDH Policies

MDH policies are used to guide MDH employees in the performance of their work and to support consistent operations across the Department.  Policies are also used to guide operations in accordance with the policy statements. All policies are governed by MDH Policy 10.01.01 Policy on Policy Development.

Policies must undergo a formal development and review process coordinated by the MDH Office of Regulation and Policy Coordination (ORPC), and require the Secretary’s approval before implementation. Policies are developed using plain language and are intended to be clear, concise, and user-friendly.

Existing policies may be reviewed periodically to ensure they remain aligned with departmental standards, operational needs, and applicable legal and regulatory requirements. Policies may also be revised as needed in response to changes in laws, regulations, organizational priorities, or emerging operational considerations.

All policies posted on this website are official MDH policies and are currently in effect. They will remain in effect until they are revised, removed, or replaced by the Department. Historical policies or prior versions are available from the ORPC upon request at [email protected].
