Changes are coming to Medicaid.
During the COVID-19 public health emergency, Marylanders who were enrolled in Medicaid continued to be covered, even if they were no longer eligible.
Medicaid renewals will not be automatic this year. Starting in April 2023, Maryland will begin making Medicaid eligibility reviews again. Not everyone will be up for renewal at the same time. These renewals will take place over 12 months.
It is very important that we encourage Medicaid participants to make sure their contact information is up to date. We will motivate them to act when it’s their turn to renew so they can receive and respond to important messages about their health insurance.
To reduce the number of qualified members that could lose their coverage, we have created this toolkit to support providers, advocates, and partners with key messaging and resources to make sure members know how to renew their coverage and are aware of other affordable health coverage options if needed.
We encourage partners to use the messages, templates, and other informational resources available in this toolkit in their own outreach campaigns. And we ask that you help us in sharing consistent messages to ensure participants get the information they need while minimizing potential confusion.
Communications Outreach Strategies
It will take a collaborative and consistent effort to help educate enrollees about the Medicaid redetermination changes. We encourage all partners to identify opportunities to engage and share information with current participants. Some examples where health care providers can deliver outreach messaging include:
- Educate staff on frequently asked questions.
- Provide fliers at the front desk and in patient rooms.
- Post flier on the office front door.
- Send emails to patients.
- Deliver text messages to patients.
- Insert notices in your newsletters.
- Post on your social media.
- Post content on your websites.
