Joy Ashcraft, LMSW
Director, Maryland's Commitment to Veterans
Joy Ashcraft joined the MCV family in March 2020. She has spent the past 16 years working alongside and in support of Service Members, Veterans, and their Families. She earned a Master of Social Work degree from the University of Southern California where she specialized in Community Organization, Planning and Administration and minored in Military Social Work. Joy also holds a Master of Education degree in Guidance and Counseling from Bowie State University. She comes from a family with a long tradition of military service representing all five branches and currently serves as a member of the 10th Medical Regiment of the Maryland Defense Force. Joy is passionate about supporting this community and truly enjoys building community capacity.
Angel Powell
Central Regional Resources Coordinator; Social Media Coordinator
Serving: Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Harford, and Howard Counties and Baltimore City
Angel Powell has her Bachelor’s of Science in Applied Psychology and her Master’s of Science in Professional Counseling. Angel joined the MCV team in September of 2019. She is the Southern Regional Resource Coordinator, serving: St. Mary’s, Calvert, Prince George’s and Charles Counties. Angel comes from a highly military populated family, representing the following branches: Army, Navy, Marines and Air Force, as well as different eras from WW2 to current day. Angel has an extensive background in Behavioral Health including Suicide Prevention, Crisis Response and Inpatient Services. Combining the passion for those who have served along with Behavioral Health has been rewarding and a great learning experience. Being a part of the MCV team has been fun, engaging and exciting. “I look forward to continuously providing services to those who have served and protected our country.”
David Galloway
Western Regional Resource Coordinator; Training Coordinator
Serving: Alleghany, Carroll, Frederick, Garrett, Montgomery, and Washington Counties
David Galloway grew up in Ocean City MD before serving in the United States Marine Corps from 2003-2007 as an Infantry Machine Gunner. During his enlistment he was deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom two times. After leaving the Corps he enrolled at the University of Maryland College Park, attaining his Bachelor of the Arts degree in Criminal Justice. For the last ten years David has served the veteran community in a variety of roles. Primary focuses include peer support and suicide prevention support. David Galloway now serves as the Western Maryland Regional Resource Coordinator for Maryland's Commitment to Veterans, drawing on his personal and professional experiences to help educate the community and veterans on Veterans behavioral health. “Working with vets, gives me the purpose and pride I haven’t felt since leaving the Marines.”
Dina Karpf
Eastern Regional Resource Coordinator; Crisis Coordinator
Serving: Caroline, Cecil, Dorchester, Kent, Queen Anne's, Somerset, Talbot, Wicomico, and Worcester Counties
Dina Karpf has been with MCV since 2014. Dina grew up and still lives on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, where she enjoys the beaches, river and bays. She earned a Bachelors of Social Work from Salisbury University. Dina facilitates the Lower Shore and Mid Shore Veteran's Network meetings and is a Board member for the Mental Health Association of Maryland. She is connected to the veteran community with several of her family members serving in the military. “Working with veterans is extremely rewarding. Creating our Operation Roll Call program has been one of the most rewarding parts of my career. Being a member of the MCV team is like being a part of a close knit family. I love the way our team brings different perspectives to the table!"
Richard Reed
Southern Regional Resource Coordinator; Data Coordinator Serving: Calvert, Charles, Prince George's, and St. Mary's Counties
Rick Reed has been with the organization for 5 years now. He is a disabled combat veteran who served eight years in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. His overseas tours include KFOR Operations in Kosovo 1999, the initial 2001 push in Afghanistan during the OEF campaign, and the initial 2003 push during the OIF campaign, with several humanitarian missions in between. Rick holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting, Finance, and Marketing; and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration with a concentration in Statistics. Rick says “his current position allows him to continue to express his passion to serve his country by assisting Maryland veterans alongside transitioning service members and their families with behavioral health matters and additional supportive services.”
