Online Renewal Instructions & Inactive Status Information

General Information and Instructions 

Before you start the renewal application, you will need your license number and  the last four digits of your social security number.  Your license number can be found by clicking License Verification & Roster Information.   Information regarding renewal dates, renewal fees, reporting periods, continuing education, and general information regarding renewal can be found by visiting the License Renewal Application & Process Information​ page.

General Information  

1. There are three application sections to complete - General Application Information, Disciplinary Questions, and Continuing Education Requirements.  Each section must be completed to turn all status arrows green.  You can save your progress and return later to complete the renewal application. Please ensure you complete the renewal application prior  to the end of the renewal cycle to avoid your license lapsing.   

2. Steps for Submission:

    • ​Ensure all arrows are green before attempting to submit your appliction.  
    • Disable pop-up blockers in your web browser while completing the application to avoid error messages when pop-ups are prompted.  
    • After completing all sections of the aplication, click Submit Application and Pay Fee to affirm your application and to access the credit/debit card payment portal.       

3. Proof of Submission           

Print a copy of your renewal application and the payment confirmation for your records.  

​TIP- Renew on time to avoid paying late and reinstatement fees. These fees will not be waived if application submission is delayed by technically difficulty.  

NOTE - Acupuncturists who fail to renew their license by the end of the renewal cycle will become non-renewed and will need to reinstate their license. Acupuncturists  are not authorized to practice in Maryland without an active license. Detailed Section Instructions 

Part 1: General Application Information 

Select Renew in the drop-down menu to start the renewal process.  Complete all applicable application fields.  Update any information that has changed and submit supporting documentation as needed.  Some fields will be pre-populated.   When you complete the application select Submit as Complete or Save-Not Complete to save your progress and finish later.  

Select Inactive Status in the drop down menu if you will not be practicing in Maryland in the foreseeable future. The application format will change.  Complete all applicable application fields then select Submit as Complete or Save-Not Complete to save your progress and finish later.  

Once all data entry is complete, you will be directed to the application affirmation page to finalzie the application and pay the renewal fee.    

Part 2: Disciplinary Questions 

Answer all questions fully, providing detailed incident explanations and supporting documentation. Some explanations may require legal documentation that must be  submitted to the Board (court records, completion of court ordered  courses, compliance reports, etc.) for a decision to me made.  Some circumstances may require a  Board investigation before approving the renewal.  

Part 3: Continuing Education (CE) Requirements  

1. CE requirements can be found by visiting the Resources, Requirements and Information Requests page. 

2. Add CE courses to the application electronic workbook by pressing  the “ (+) Add” button".  ​ As courses are added, the list of courses appear in a list below the "Add" form.  If you make an error, simply delete the data and reenter the correct information.  The CE calculator displays a running total of the hours entered.

3. ​​Press the “Submit and Return to Menu” button when the CE hour requirement total is met.  The arrow will turn green.  

Final Steps: Affirmation and Payment

After completing all three application sections, the Submit Application and Pay Fee button will be activated.  Press this button to affirm your application and select a payment method.  You must pay your renewal fee online using a Master or Visa  credit/debit card. 


Inactive Status Application Option

This status is an option for Licensees who don't want to renew their license because they will not be practicing for at least two (2) but not more than six (6) years. Examples for considering inactive status include an extended medical leave for a variety of reasons, studying or traveling abroad, pursuing another certification or degree or another situation that hinders your ability to practice for an extended period of time. To request inactive status a licensee must:

  • Complete the Inactive Status Application​ during their renewal cycle and prior to her/his license expiration date. To access the application visit the Renewal Application portal. 
  • Pay the fee at the end of the application process. 

If approved for inactive status, the Licensee has six (6) ​​​years maximum to reactivate her/his license. When the Licensee is ready to return to practice, he/she must:

  1. Submit the required Reactivation Application online, 
  2. Pay the application fee. Visa or MasterCard are acceptable forms of payment. Do not submit a check or a money order. The total reactivation fee is $551. The fee breakdown is as follows: 
    • $525 Renewal Application Fee
    • $26 ​​Maryland Health Care Commission Fee. Fees are not refundable.​
  3. ​Submit proof of continuing education unit/credit completion (e.g., certificates) to the Board with her/his application. The required 30 continuing education units/credits must be completed within the two (2)-​year period prior to the application being submitted. All required documentation can be submitted by Google Form, email, or fax as follows:

REMEMBER: ​Inactive status is limited to a 6-year time period. Failure to reactivate prior to license expiration in the sixth year will result in the Licensee being required to submit a Reinstatement Application​.
