This status is an option for Licensees who don't want to renew their license because they will not be practicing for at least two (2) but not more than six (6) years. Examples for considering inactive status include an extended medical leave for a variety of reasons, studying or traveling abroad, pursuing another certification or degree or another situation that hinders your ability to practice for an extended period of time. If approved for inactive status, the Licensee has six (6) years maximum to reactivate her/his license. When the Licensee is ready to return to practice, he/she must:
- Submit the required Reactivation Application online,
- Pay the application fee. Visa or MasterCard are acceptable forms of payment. Do not submit a check or a money order. The total reactivation fee is $551. The fee breakdown is as follows:
- $525 Renewal Application Fee
- $26 Maryland Health Care Commission Fee. Fees are not refundable.
- Submit proof of continuing education unit/credit completion (e.g., certificates) to the Board with her/his application. The required 30 continuing education units/credits must be completed within the two (2)-year period prior to the application being submitted. REMEMBER: Inactive status is limited to a 6-year time period. Failure to reactivate prior to license expiration in the sixth year will result in the Licensee being required to submit a Reinstatement Application.
