Swimming at beaches, lakes and rivers

To avoid swimming in unsafe water, check if there are any beach alerts at
Maryland Healthy BeachesAlso, avoid swimming for 2 days after heavy rainfall and
near storm drains.
 
Other tips for staying healthy while at the beach, lake, or river:
 
  •  Do not swallow water while swimming.
  •  Do not go in the water if you have diarrhea or open cuts or wounds.
  •  Change diapers in bathrooms, not near the water.
  •  Shower after swimming.
