Maryland Department of Health seeks public input for federal Rural Health Transformation Program by Sept. 30Baltimore, MD – The Maryland Department of Health today announced that it is seeking innovative projects, ideas and strategies to improve rural health in Maryland as part of the federal
Rural Health Transformation Program administered by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). The Department will closely consider submissions as it develops the state’s proposal for the federal funding opportunity.
"Input from our rural communities is crucial for effectively shaping our proposal to address their unique health challenges," said Maryland Health Secretary Dr. Meena Seshamani. "We encourage all Marylanders, especially those living and working in rural areas, to share their ideas and experiences. Together, we can develop a comprehensive approach that meets the needs of our rural health care systems and improves our communities' overall health and well-being."
Residents and stakeholders are encouraged to submit their project proposals or ideas using the request for information form available at
bit.ly/MdRuralHealth-Input. The Maryland Department of Health will accept submissions until September 30. In addition to the request for information, the Department will host a
public webinar on Monday, September 15, at 12:30 p.m. to provide further detail. The Department will also collaborate with local health departments to hold listening sessions to gather additional community insights and recommendations. Event dates will be posted on the
Department’s Office of Rural Health website and Department social media.
CMS has allocated a total of $50 billion to the program over five years. The strategic goals of the Rural Health Transformation Program, as outlined by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, include prevention and management of chronic diseases, behavioral health, sustainable access to care, workforce development, and innovative care and technology solutions.
