PHOTO RELEASE: Maryland Department of Health provides free COVID-19 bivalent boosters at the Salvadoran Independence Festival in Montgomery County

Baltimore, MD – The Maryland Department of Health (MDH), in partnership with the Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services, provided free COVID-19 bivalent boosters today at the 17th Annual Salvadoran Independence Festival held at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds in Gaithersburg.

COVID-19 updated bivalent boosters were available for anyone 12 years or older.

The event is an example of statewide efforts for the equitable and convenient administration of COVID-19 vaccines by bringing them directly to Marylanders who want or need them.

Dr. Mark Martin, Acting Director of the MDH Office of Minority Health and Health Disparities, urged the participants to take advantage of the free services offered at the event to protect themselves and their families from illness.

“We are proud to be here celebrating with this community, and we’re committed to continuing to work toward equity in health care so that every community has access to the services they need,” Dr. Martin said.

Community promoters shared information with festival participants to encourage vaccination.

In addition to the mobile clinic, bilingual community canvassers shared educational material in English and Spanish about how to stay COVIDReady with vaccinations, boosters, COVID testing and treatment.
