Maryland Department of Health Announces Appointment-Free COVID-19 Testing at Glen Burnie VEIP, Independence Day Holiday Schedule

Appointment-free scheduling increases convenience and accessibility

Baltimore, MD – The Maryland Department of Health today announced that the Glen Burnie Vehicle Emissions Inspection Program (VEIP) COVID-19 testing site is offering drive-thru testing without the need for an appointment or a doctor’s order. Appointment-free testing at Glen Burnie VEIP will begin today, Wed., July 1, with hours of operation from 8 a.m.-12 p.m.

In order to get a test, patients need simply to arrive on site during operating hours with a valid form of identification. Patients are not required to have a doctor’s order to get a test at the Glen Burnie site, making it accessible to those who are uninsured or do not have a physician.

Patients receiving a test at Glen Burnie VEIP will be able to get their results via phone call, text message, or a dedicated laboratory patient portal. Instructions for retrieving results will be provided to patients on site, and results are generally available within two to five days.

The Glen Burnie VEIP site will be open for appointment-free testing on Wednesdays and Fridays from 8 a.m.-12 p.m. until further notice. In the coming weeks, expanded scheduling options at further sites will be announced

The state also announced that many testing sites, such as Six Flags America theme park, the Baltimore Convention Center, and most VEIP sites (including Glen Burnie), will be closed on Fri., July 3 in observance of Independence Day. Some testing sites operated by local governments and private organizations may operate on July 3. Patients are always encouraged to contact the site where they plan to be tested to verify that site’s schedule, appointment procedures, and other requirements.

The Glen Burnie VEIP testing site is operated in partnership with the Maryland Department of Transportation and the Anne Arundel County government. For more information about testing sites in Maryland, visit and clicking on the “Testing” tab.
