From the Governor of the State of Maryland
Maryland Technology First Day
August 15, 2024
WHEREAS, | We believe in a Maryland that recognizes the unlimited potential for all our citizens, including those disabilities, to live, work and thrive in our communities; and |
WHEREAS, | Enabling technology, including assistive technology and remote supports, allows people with disabilities to enhance their functional independence; and |
WHEREAS, | Access to enabling technology supports and services allows Marylanders with disabilities to have independence, safety and privacy; and |
WHEREAS, | On August 15, 2022, Maryland was declared a Technology First State, which means Maryland is committed to empowering all our citizens with disabilities to have access to technology that will enhance their ability to pursue their best life as they define it; and |
WHEREAS, | We are committed to building a state that promotes equality of opportunity, access and choice for all Marylanders with disabilities. |
NOW, THEREFORE, I, WES MOORE, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF MARYLAND, do hereby proclaim August 15, 2024 as MARYLAND TECHNOLOGY FIRST DAY in honor of the second anniversary of Maryland becoming a Technology First State, and to promote the use of technology first in the discussion of support options available to individuals and families in Maryland to achieve meaningful participation, social inclusion, self-determination and quality of life.
