From the Governor of the State of Maryland
Immunization Awareness Month in Maryland
August 2024
WHEREAS, | Vaccine-preventable illnesses including influenza, measles, and pertussis (whooping cough) have not gone away and still can be a health risk to people of all ages; and |
WHEREAS, | Vaccines are one of the most effective life-saving public health interventions in history, with new vaccines developed each year to protect Marylanders from illnesses such as RSV and MPox; and |
WHEREAS, | Immunization is a key component of primary health care and an indisputable human right which should be accessible to all Marylanders.; and |
WHEREAS, | It is important that all Marylanders stay up to date with their routine vaccinations for their individual and community health and wellbeing; and |
WHEREAS, | National Immunization Awareness Month is a federally recognized annual observance that highlights the importance of routine vaccination for people of all ages;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, WES MOORE, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF MARYLAND, do hereby proclaim August 2024 as IMMUNIZATION AWARENESS MONTH in Maryland and do commend this observance to all of our citizens.
