Cell and Gene Therapy

​​Cell and gene therapy is a new treatment for sickle cell disease. It changes your stem cells so your body makes healthy red blood cells. This can lower pain episodes and reduce hospital trips.

Am I eligible for cell and gene therapy?

To be eligible, you must:
  • Have Maryland Medicaid. 
  • Be at least 12 years old.
  • Have a sickle cell disease diagnosis.
  • Meet the medical requirements for one of the two covered therapies.
