Welcome! Families play a unique and critical role in the lives of their family members with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The care and support they provide is often ongoing and provided across their family member’s lifespan. Care can vary but oftentimes includes emotional, physical, behavioral and financial support beyond which is typically required. In addition, families create and provide opportunities for their family members to engage their community through social interactions and relationships, education, recreation and faith, health and safety, advocacy and employment etc. enabling their family members to live meaningful lives.
Caring for family members with intellectual and developmental disabilities is important, but it isn’t always easy! The challenges of having a developmental disability can be difficult for both the person with the disability and their family. Both need support!
