TRANSFER
If you plan to transfer to another state position within the Maryland Department of Health (Department) or if you separate from the Department prior to completing your obligated service repayment, you must notify the Training Services Division and your supervisor prior to doing so.

Additional Information:
  • You must now repay the remaining obligated service in cash. This will be based on the salary you earned when you were first approved to participate in the Program.
  • The cash repayments will be coordinated by the MDH’s Accounting Department.
  • The cash repayments will only be repaid to the designated unit/facility cost center where the obligated service was loaned.
CASH REPAYMENT REDUCTION
If a participant plans to leave MDH service prior to completing obligated service repayment, he/she may have the option to reduce their cash repayment total by requesting to apply unused annual leave to reduce the obligated service hours prior to departure. This option is only available if requested and approved prior to departure.

THREE YEAR RETURN OPTION
If a former Work Study participant returns to MDH service within three years, they may be eligible to resume repaying the remaining cash balance in obligated service hours. The form must be submitted to the Training Services Division to request the option.  You will be notified if you are allowed to resume repaying the cash in obligated service hours.

THREE YEAR RETURN OPTION INELIGIBILITY
Participants who were dismissed from the program for any reason or separated from MDH service without notice to the Training Services Division will not be eligible for the three-year return option. Therefore, the remaining cash payment obligation prior to your return must continue until it has been paid in full.
