Overview
To improve accessibility and quality of care by implementing a program to increase in health care providers across the state, especially in rural areas of the State, areas considered to have health professional shortages, and/or medically underserved areas/populations.
What does this program do?

  • Ensure adequate health workforce, especially in the most high-need areas.
  • Market and Administer Workforce Programs (J-1 Visa, State Loan Repayment Program, National Health Service Corps, Preceptor Tax Credit​) to expand access in underserved communities.
  • Utilize data and local community engagement to understand workforce needs.

Preparing for a Maryland Statewide Healthcare Workforce Data Clearing House:
State and National Landscape Findings

 The Maryland Department of Health and health care workforce development stakeholders have identified benefits of planning and establishing a Maryland statewide healthcare workforce data clearinghouse to serve as a central repository of data related to the healthcare workforce serving Maryland residents. To this end, MDH, in conjunction with vendor assistance, has conducted an exploratory landscape analysis on available healthcare workforce data clearinghouse models consisting of literature review and interviews with representatives of successful healthcare workforce data clearinghouses in other states.  Review report here
