Breastfeeding and Tight Frenulums
Dana Silver, MD, FAAP, FABM
Dr. Dana Silver is a general pediatrician and Head of the Division of General Pediatrics at the Herman and Walter Samuelson Children’s Hospital at Sinai Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. She received her B.S. from Cornell University in 1987, and her M.D. from University of Maryland in 1991. She then completed residency and chief residency at Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital in Cleveland.
Dr. Silver has been a Fellow of the Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine since 2013. She lectures extensively across the Mid-Atlantic region on breastfeeding, and has worked on advocacy and legislative issues including the use of donor human milk in Maryland’s NICU’s, and insurance coverage of breast pumps. She is currently serving as treasurer of the Maryland Breastfeeding Coalition and Breastfeeding Coordinator for the Maryland Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics.
Presentation Objectives:
- Identify ankyloglossia in newborns.
- Restate the challenge ankyloglossia may cause in breastfeeding mother-infant dyads, and the controversies in its management.
- Review frenotomies and their pros and cons.
