Pregnant people and new parents are often at the center of their family’s life – physically, emotionally, and culturally. Losing a pregnant person or a new parent in the first year after a pregnancy ends can be devastating and have enormous impacts on a family and community.
Pregnancy-related deaths are preventable. In 2018, 84 % of the deaths that occurred in Maryland during a pregnancy or up to one year after pregnancy ends could have been prevented.
