Directly observed therapy (DOT) for tuberculosis (TB) medication administration is the standard of care in Maryland and throughout the United States for all active TB cases. DOT is important because it helps individuals to take their TB medication as prescribed which has been found to lead to better treatment outcomes. DOT is typically performed in person, but video DOT (vDOT) may be considered in conjunction with in-person DOT for TB patients who have met Maryland's vDOT standard eligibility criteria and have given consent for use. Maryland's eligibility criteria may be requested by reaching out to one of the Nurse Consultants at the Center for Tuberculosis Control and Prevention.
