The Adult Viral Hepatitis Prevention Program (AVHPP) for Maryland, funded in 2007 by the Centers for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC), is staffed by a AVHPP Coordinator. The AVHPP Coordinator provides the technical expertise necessary for the management and coordination of activities directed toward prevention of viral hepatitis infections and integration of viral hepatitis prevention services into health care settings and public health programs that serve adults at risk for viral hepatitis. Examples of programs into which viral hepatitis prevention should be integrated include those addressing sexually transmitted infections, HIV, immunization, correctional health, substance abuse treatment, and syringe exchange.
