Important notes regarding version 3.1 Electronic Case Reports (eCRs) and eRSD versions 1 and 2

The Office of the Assistant Secretary for Technology Policy has set a deadline of December 31, 2025 for electronic health record (EHR) systems to implement the USCDI Version 3.1 standard

The Maryland Department of Health is able to receive and process Version 3.1 eCRs.

Vendors of all EHR systems that have been approved by the CDC for eCR onboarding must implement Version 3.1 eCRs for their customers no later than December 31, 2025. Please contact your EHR vendor if your healthcare organization's EHR system has not already switched to this standard or if you are uncertain which eCR version your organization is sending to public health agencies. For complete information, please see the Certification Companion Guide: Transmission to public health agencies — electronic case reporting

In addition, please be aware that APHL will sunset eRSD Version 1 and eRSD 2 on January 31, 2026. There will be no updates to eRSD Versions 1 and 2 after that date. Please ensure that your EHR system has been upgraded to eRSD Version 3 by this deadline.
