The Office of the Inspector General’s Program Integrity Unit audits and investigates health care providers and suppliers of durable medical equipment and supplies who are suspected of overbilling or defrauding the Maryland Medicaid program. Findings of fraud and abuse may result in administrative actions or referral to the Office of the Attorney General, Medicaid Fraud Control Unit for civil or criminal prosecution.
The Program Integrity Unit also conducts investigations into allegations related to Medicaid consumer eligibility and misuse of benefit cards. In addition to seeking recovery of funds from Medicaid recipients who improperly received Medicaid services, the Unit coordinates with other State and federal law enforcement agencies to ensure streamlined investigations and prosecutions.
