Long Term Care Consumer Resources

Description

Maryland Consumer Guide to Long Term Care  A tool for choosing a nursing home that is one of many nursing home resources maintained by the Maryland Health Care Commission (MHCC).

Nursing Home Compare  Consumers can find and compare Medicare-certified nursing homes based on a location and compare their staffing and the quality of care they give.  The tool also lets you search for short-term care such as rehabilitation from surgery, and other forms of specialized care.

Advancing Excellence in America’s Nursing Homes Campaign helps nursing homes achieve excellence in the quality of care and quality of life for the more than 1.5 million residents of America’s nursing homes.

Reports

OHCQ Deficiency Reports  OHCQ deficiency reports are part of the Maryland Consumer Guide to Long Term Care that is located on MHCC's website.  For each nursing home, the Report Card includes Facility Characteristics; Residential Characteristics; Quality of Care Indicators; Deficiency Reports; and Map location.  You can search for the name of a nursing home or with a zip code and mileage radius.

Guidelines for Electronic Monitoring  During the 2003 session, the General Assembly passed House Bill 149, Vera's Law, which required the Maryland Department of Health to develop guidelines for nursing homes that elect to use electronic monitoring with the consent of a resident or the legal representative of the resident.  The guidelines assist facilities in implementing electronic monitoring and developing policies and procedures.
