Update on top 10 and bottom 10 skilled nursing facilities in Maryland ranked by staff vaccination rates

Maryland Department of Health also announces 15 facilities that did not submit adequate data required by state

Baltimore, MD – The Maryland Department of Health (MDH) today announced an update on the top 10 and bottom 10 skilled nursing facilities in the state ranked by percentage of staff with at least one dose of a vaccine against COVID-19 and highly contagious variants. MDH also announced an update on skilled nursing facilities that did not submit adequate staff COVID-19 vaccination data as required by the state.

Per new vaccination protocols that went into effect on September 1, 2021, all nursing facility staff are required to have their first or single dose of COVID-19 vaccine. Nursing facilities that fail to comply with the new vaccination protocols or do not report their vaccination data will be subject to increased fines, civil penalties, and enforcement actions.

On May 4, 2021, the Maryland Department of Aging launched the Skilled Nursing Facilities Vaccination Dashboard, which weekly publishes data on residents and staff vaccinated against COVID-19 at each of the skilled nursing  facilities in the state.

“We are grateful for and I want to personally thank the 82 nursing facilities that have 90 percent or more of staff with at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine,” said MDH Secretary Dennis R. Schrader. “We have imposed more than $185,000 in fines to date and will continue to take necessary measures against facilities that are not complying.”

“Vaccines are the single most effective tool we have to protect our seniors from severe illness, hospitalization, and death from COVID-19,” said Maryland Department of Aging Secretary Rona E. Kramer. “Our protocols for these facilities are clear: ensure staff have at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and report the data properly or face enforcement actions.”
