Photo Release: Maryland Department of Health hosts annual health equity conference
Baltimore, MD – The Maryland Department of Health (MDH) Office of Minority Health and Health Disparities (MHHD) today hosted its sixteenth annual health equity conference at Martin’s West in Baltimore.
Attendees gather in the Terrance Room at Martin’s West to begin the MHHD health equity conference.
This year’s conference — Achieving Health Equity and Cost Reduction Through Clinical-Community Partnerships — educated stakeholders about the actions Maryland is taking to reduce health disparities and achieve health care cost savings.
MHHD Director Dr. Noel Brathwaite and MHHD Deputy Director Dr. Mark Martin welcomed attendees and introduced guest speakers MDH Secretary Robert R. Neall and health advocate State Sen. Shirley Nathan-Pulliam.

Dr. John Ruffin received the Shirley Nathan-Pulliam Health Equity Leadership Award during the conference for his work to establish minority health and health disparities research at the National Institutes of Health.

Attendees included hospital administrators and staff, health organizations, academic institutions, community advocates and members of the public. The conference featured vendor exhibits and topical programming including community-based initiatives, cost-saving practives and the Maryland Diabetes Action Plan.
