WHEREAS, Public health is the science of preventing disease, prolonging life, and promoting the health of people and their communities; and

WHEREAS, Connections to community and culture impact health and well-being which makes communities healthier, stronger and safer; and​​

WHEREAS, Public health practitioners work tirelessly to keep all Maryland residents and their communities safe and healthy – every minute, every hour, every day; and

WHEREAS, Public health services include the prevention and treatment of disease and injury, emergency preparedness and response activities, strengthening health systems and infrastructure, and increasing access to care, clean air, safe drinking water, and food sources; and 

WHEREAS, Public health interventions yield high cost-savings and prevent additional cost to health services and the wider economy; and

WHEREAS, Maryland is committed to improving the health and quality of life of our residents and their communities and recognizing the contributions of all public health ​practitioners in our State.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, WES MOORE, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF MARYLAND, do hereby proclaim APRIL 3 - 9, 2023, as PUBLIC HEALTH WEEK IN MARYLAND and do commend this observance to all of our citizens.
