Maryland Department of Health partners with Compare Foods to bring vaccinations directly to staff and shoppers in Prince George’s County and Baltimore City

MDH continues to expand appointment-free vaccine opportunities for residents in underserved communities 

Hyattsville, MD – On Sunday, May 23, the Maryland Department of Health (MDH) partnered with Compare Foods to vaccinate 200 staff and shoppers in Prince George’s County and Baltimore City. Compare Foods offered a 10% discount on the shopping bill of those who received a vaccine. The vaccination clinics at the Compare Food locations offered walk-up, no appointment vaccinations for individuals. Additionally, each of these individuals are now eligible for Maryland’s VaxCash Promotion, a chance to win $40,000 every day starting May 25 and a grand prize of $400,000 on July 4th.

Compare Foods at 7051 Martin Luther King Highway in Hyattsville and 6500 Eastern Avenue in Baltimore participated. Other Compare Foods locations will offer vaccines and similar discounts in the coming days. 

“This is a key element of our ground game to bring life-saving vaccines directly where our residents live, work, and shop,” said MDH Secretary Dennis R. Schrader. “The state is driven to get as many shots in arms as possible to get COVID-19 and its variants behind us and citizens can begin to experience a sense of normalcy.”

“We are grateful for Maryland business leaders like Leo, Marie and Sebastian Peña who are partnering with the Department of Health to further incentivize Marylanders to get vaccinated,” said MDH Assistant Secretary of Health and Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Jeffrey S. Woolford. “This is both a wonderful opportunity to easily get vaccinated and benefit from a discount on your shopping.”

"If you are one of our regular shoppers or shopped with us for the first time today, thank you for visiting our Baltimore and Hyattsville stores, getting vaccinated, and benefiting from 10 percent off your purchase."

Residents are encouraged to get a vaccine at any of the hundreds of vaccine distribution points throughout Baltimore, including the mass vaccination sites at the Baltimore Convention Center Field Hospital and M&T Bank Stadium locations. While no appointment is required, those wishing to guarantee a time slot may schedule an appointment by visiting covidvax.maryland.gov or calling toll-free 855-MD-GOVAX. Both of Baltimore City’s mass vaccination sites offer the Pfizer vaccines, which are authorized for individuals 12 years of age and older.
