Maryland Department of Health celebrates Walk Maryland Day 2022 with a Walk-at-Work event for state employees
Baltimore, MD – The Maryland Department of Health (MDH) today celebrated the 8th annual Walk Maryland Day with a Walk-at-Work event for employees at State Center and planned walks across the state.
MDH Deputy Secretary for Public Health Services Dr. Jinlene Chan led approximately 50 state employees on a community walk from 300 W. Preston Street.
Walk Maryland Day is a recognition of walking as the official state exercise. It’s a day to encourage Marylanders to get active to improve their health and well-being. Across the state, hundreds of individuals laced up to walk as “sole mates'' in 70 planned events. All events are part of Walktober, Maryland’s third annual, month-long promotion of walking for fitness, recreation, and transportation.
Walk Maryland Day participants posed for a photo outside 300 W. Preston Street after a short walk around the area.
“Walking is an effective physical activity, recommended as part of a healthy lifestyle to help get you fit, provide a mental boost, and reduce your risk for chronic disease,” said MDH Deputy Secretary for Public Health Services Dr. Jinlene Chan. “When done safely, walking can be extraordinarily helpful for staying active, relaxing, connecting with friends, and other activities. A few minutes a day can make a difference.”
