Maryland Department of Health Division of Vital Records temporarily closes Monday due to nearby natural gas explosion

Baltimore, MD -The Maryland Department of Health’s (MDH) Division of Vital Records (DVR) today temporarily closed its location at 6764B Reisterstown Road due to a nearby natural gas explosion. MDH is expecting the facility to open on Tuesday for DVR employees.

A strong odor of natural gas was detected in the vicinity that prompted the closure out of an abundance of caution and safety of the workforce.

DVR issues records, such as birth and death certificates to Maryland residents. Since the COVID-19 state of emergency began, the office has been closed to the public; however, DVR staff report to the facility to process online and mail vital records requests. Requests for vital records are available for purchase online or by mail.
